You can cancel a Nomad Stays booking yourself, on the website or through your AI assistant, as long as its cancellation period is still open. This article explains when you can cancel, what you get back, and what happens next.
Check your cancellation period first
Each booking follows the cancellation policy of the Stay you booked. Most Stays use one of our three standard policies: Full, Flexible or Limited. You can read the summary on our Cancellation Policies page. Your booking’s policy is shown on its confirmation page.
What you get back depends on when you cancel:
- Cooling-off period (first 48 hours after booking): Full and Flexible bookings can be cancelled within 48 hours of booking for a 100% refund of your booking fee.
- Adequate notice period: after the cooling-off period you can still cancel for 100% account credit of your booking fee, until the deadline shown for your booking. On a Full policy the deadline is 48 hours before check-in. On a Flexible policy it is a period before check-in equal to the length of your stay: a 21-night stay can be cancelled up to 21 days before check-in.
- Last-minute bookings (check-in within 7 days of booking): Full policy bookings can still be cancelled for account credit until 48 hours before check-in. Flexible policy bookings can’t be cancelled for credit.
- Limited policy: these bookings are non-refundable and can’t be cancelled for credit.
- Custom policy: the Stay sets its own terms. You can send a cancellation request, and our team will review it with the Stay. Your booking stays active until we reply.
The amount you get back is your booking fee: the part you pay us online to secure your booking. The balance is paid to the Stay at check-in and is not refunded by us.
How to cancel
If you have a Nomad Stays account
- Sign in and open your Member Dashboard, then Personal Bookings.
- Find the booking. If it can still be cancelled, the Cancellation column shows a Cancel button (or Request for a Custom policy). Hover over it to see the deadline.
- You can also open the booking from its confirmation page and choose Cancel Booking.
- Check the summary, add an optional reason, and confirm.
If you booked without an account
Open the Manage your booking button in your booking confirmation email. It shows your cancellation options for that booking.
Using an AI assistant
If you have connected an AI assistant to Nomad Stays, you can ask it to check or cancel a booking. It will first explain what cancelling would do and what you would get back, and it will only cancel once you have confirmed. See How to Connect an AI Assistant to Nomad Stays.
What happens next
- Account holders: the refund or credit goes straight into your Nomad Stays wallet, in US dollars at the rate on the day you cancel. You’ll see it under Wallet.
- Bookings made without an account: the booking is cancelled, and our team refunds your booking fee to your original payment method and confirms by email.
- Custom policy: nothing changes until the Stay and our team have reviewed your request. We’ll email you the outcome. If it’s approved, the booking is cancelled and we’ll be in touch about any refund or credit due.
- The Stay is emailed straight away and the room is released for other guests to book.
When you can’t cancel online
If the cancellation period has passed, your booking will say that the cancellation period has expired, and it can’t be cancelled online. Limited policy bookings say they are non-refundable. Bookings that have already started can’t be cancelled online either.
If your plans have changed, see Changing a Booking, or email [email protected] with your booking reference and we’ll help.
